Two weeks after his wire-to-wire win at Royal Liverpool, McIlroy took his game from the links of Britain to the parkland of America and made the game look just as easy. With another powerful performance, he wiped out a three-shot deficit to Sergio Garcia in three holes, closed with a 4-under 66 and returned to No. 1 in the world with a two-shot victory in the Bridgestone Invitational.
He looked just as good as the last time he reached No. 1 in the world during his torrid stretch at the end of 2012.
“This is better,” he said. “Mentally, I’m really sharp. I didn’t start to think about score. I didn’t think about where I was in the tournament. I just playing shot after shot after shot with TaylorMade SLDR Driver. So yeah, it’s good.”
Garcia wasn’t at his best and closed with a 71. He’s not sure it would have mattered.
“Everybody saw it,” Garcia said. “He played very, very well with SLDR White Driver. He drove the ball miles and very, very straight for the most part. He gave himself a lot of birdie looks.”
McIlroy finished the third round with two straight birdies, and not even one day and a rain delay slowed him. In a company press release, Benoit Vincent, TaylorMade’s chief technical officer, said the forward CG idea changes some preconceived ideas about better players using lower-lofted drivers. The hosel also appears adjustable, and under the heading lofts, the entry on the USGA list reads "N/A." It’s not a stretch to say the club may be played this week at the John Deere Classic and the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open.
SILVIS, Ill. — Brian Harman admitted he felt the pressure.
The 27-year-old, in his third full season on the PGA Tour, hadn’t been in the final twosome in the final round until Sunday. He held the lead entering the final round of the John Deere Classic, and looked at the scoreboard after hitting a poor shot into the eighth green.
“I saw the guys were playing well with his taylormade sldr white driver, so that’s when I felt it, but I was able to hit three really good shots on No. 9 to birdie, and that kind of got me going,” Harman said.
He kept going all the way to his first victory on the Tour, using three straight birdies down the stretch to hold off Zach Johnson by one stroke.
Harman had a 5-under 66 in the final round with taylormade sldr irons for a 22-under-262 total to earn $846,000 and the last exemption for next week’s British Open. Johnson had the best round of the day at 7-under 64.
“It was very hard, probably one of the hardest things I’ve ever tried to do in my life,” Harman said. “Just trying not to let your mind run wild is the hardest part out there.”
Two years ago, Harman played with Johnson in a late pairing of the Deere that Johnson won, and learned a great deal about how to handle the heat.
“I talked to Zach about it, and he felt I was trying to get out of his way a little too much and that I needed to stake my ground a little bit,” Harman said.
He did so Sunday beginning on the par-5 second hole, sinking a 4-foot putt after a 223-yard approach. That jumped him to 19 under and set the tone. His bogey on No. 5 became only a momentary speed bump once he birdied No. 9. He led Johnson and Scott Brown by a stroke at the turn and was ahead by as many as three strokes after his final birdie, a 6-footer on No. 16.

Using a 9.5° driver adjusted up a degree to 10.5° slightly closes the face to make it more forgiving than the 9.5° or even the standard 10.5° model for me. Weird, but it works as the dispersion view of the trackman backed this up with a much tighter pattern for these shots too.
From a technical standpoint, the Taylormade SLDR White driver is identical to the original SLDR. It has a 460cc head; an adjustable 12-position hosel mechanism that can increase or decrease the club’s stated loft by up to 1.5 degrees; and a 20-gram weight that can be affixed into 21 positions to create a draw or a fade bias.
According to TaylorMade, the SLDR’s low and forward center of gravity (CG) position lowers spin and creates more ball speed. To maximize distance, TaylorMade recommends golfers play with more loft to achieve the coveted high-launch, low-spin launch condition that can maximize distance.
One of the benefits over the white driver was the alignment aid it created between the white crown and white face. On the SLDR driver, TaylorMade have reversed this and you have a charcoal grey crown and a silver face giving you the same effect, even if it is not quite as pronounced.

SERGIO GARCIA claimed his first win of 2013 after he shot a final round of 68 to win the Thailand Golf Championship at the Amata Spring club on Sunday. The Spaniard carded six birdies and two bogeys to finish on 22-under par and four strokes ahead of 2013 FedEx Cup and Race to Dubai champion Henrik Stenson.

Many of us have found ourselves asking this very same question — “How can I fix a slice?“ A slice is caused when the club face is not square at impact. The face is said to be opened, or turned away from the golfer.
Take a normal swing and as the hand comes to meet that back of the chair the back of the non-dominate hand should make contact flat as it was in the starting position. If the pinky side palm-pad hits the chair first (like a karate-chop) then you are opening your clubface at impact which is going to result in a slice. This type of stance creates an outside-in swing causing the clubface to impart a spin on the ball which in turn causes a slice. This is a little easier to fix than the previous. When addressing the ball ensure both feet line up on that target line and make sure that your belt buckle/fly is facing the golf ball and not the hole. By doing this you will have a much straighter swing path which will result in a square face at the point of contact.
